CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT (Concluded)

The Journal JEECAR has organized a two-day virtual Conference on Economic Transformations of the Central Asian Region and the Influence of China, Russia, and the U.S. The conference is administered in cooperation with the Almaty Management University, Kazakhstan, The Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), and Webster University in St. Louis, MO, USA. The conference will provide an exclusive forum to discuss and explore contemporary thinking of leading academic and business practitioners related to the economic transformation of economic policies and practices in countries of the Central Asian region. We are looking toward theoretically grounded and practice-oriented presentations in Economics, Banking & Finance, Management, Marketing, HRM and O.D., and Foreign Affairs.

Topics to be Discussed:

  • Eurasian economic integration
  • The impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic on the regional economies
  • Conducting business research in and about emerging markets

CONFERENCE AGENDA

  • 8:00 - 8:05 – Dr. Assylbek Kozhakhmetov. President and Founder, Almaty Management University, Kazakhstan - Welcoming remarks

Dr. Assylbek Kozhakhmetov earned his Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree at the Graduate School of Management of the National Research University "Higher School of Economics" in Moscow, Russia. Also, he completed various courses on management in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Holland, Hungary, and Estonia. In 2013, Dr. Kozhakhmetov received the State Program "Bolashak" scholarship completing the scientific internship at Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley (USA). He is the author of more than 60 articles on management and education development. His public activities include positions of the vice-chairman of the public Council on consideration and resolving social conflicts of National Democratic Party "Nur Otan," the chairman of Republican Public Association "Shanyrak," the member of independent anti-corruption Council, the member of Republican Public Council on control of public funds expenditure according to the anti-recessionary program, the member of Advisory Council for improvement of public services; a member of the working group on amendments to the law "On Education"; and a member of the Council on combating corruption in higher education institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Dr. Assylbek Kozhakhmetov is awarded the highest state award, "Kurmet" Medal of Honor of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

  • 8:05 - 8:30 – Mr. Tomas Hanson, former U.S. State Department Foreign Service Officer and Diplomat in Residence, the University of Minnesota – Duluth, and Director of The Institute of Eastern Europe and Central Asia - Keynote

Mr. Tomas Hanson currently serves as Diplomat in Residence at the Alworth Institute for International Affairs at the University of Minnesota – Duluth and has taught diplomacy at Carleton College. He is Director of The Institute of Eastern Europe and Central Asia; Chair of the Minnesota Committee on Foreign Relations; and Co-Chair of the Minnesota China Business Council.  His U.S. Foreign Service postings included East Germany, France, Norway, the Soviet Union, Sweden, and the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. He also participated in the opening of new U.S. embassies in Mongolia and Estonia, worked on the Foreign Relations Committees of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, and served as Director for NATO and European Affairs at the Atlantic Council of the United States in Washington, D.C. Tom holds graduate degrees from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, the Institute of Advanced International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, and the National School of Administration (ENA) in France.

  • 8:00 - 8:35 – Ambassador George Krol, Professor, U.S. Naval War College, and Associate, Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Harvard University – Keynote

Ambassador George Krol retired from the United States Foreign Service in 2018, concluding a 36-year career during which he served in Poland, India, the Soviet Union, Russia, Ukraine, and ambassador to Belarus, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. In the State Department, he held positions of, inter alia, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central Asia and Director of the Office of Russian Affairs. Ambassador Krol currently is an Adjunct Professor at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, R.I., lectures locally on foreign policy topics, and is an Associate of Harvard University's Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies. Ambassador Krol is a graduate of Harvard and Oxford universities.
